Officials with Wellmore announced today that they have closed on the land in Tega Cay, S.C. where they will construct a $35 million premier retirement community, which will be constructed in the Stonecrest Development located on SC Highway 160. The community is expected to create nearly 130 local jobs in healthcare and management, with site-work and landscape design contracts awarded to local firms.
The Wellmore property in Tega Cay will serve as the flagship for what company executives describe as a hybrid wellness and health care model centered on nationally recognized initiatives which extend and improve the lives of older adults. The community will offer assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing services and short term rehab as well as a community clubhouse, gourmet dining and a wellness center for residents.
“It is a very exciting time for the City of Tega Cay because of the addition of the Wellmore community,” stated Mayor George Sheppard. “Not only will we now have a senior living community for our residents who do not want to leave the city, but we have gained a great partner. This addition will be a boost to both the city and the Stonecrest communities. This has been a great experience and we are looking forward to more experiences with the Wellmore group.”
Officials with Wellmore are honored to partner with the City of Tega Cay on this notable opportunity. City Manager Charlie Funderburk said city executives are excited about today’s announcement and the positive impact it is having on the Tega Cay community.
“The City is extremely excited to hear that Wellmore officials have closed on the property at the corner of Stonecrest Blvd. and Highway 160 here in Tega Cay”, stated Funderburk. “This long awaited project will be a tremendous boost to the local economy through job creation and further development within the Stonecrest area. We feel that this organization will most certainly provide a first class facility for our senior population.”
The company’s Chief Executive Officer for Wellmore Donald Thompson says the Tega Cay property will span nearly 150,000 square feet once complete, with residential accommodations and a 25,000-square-foot-clubhouse and wellness center. Construction is slated to begin in February with a proposed opening of Summer 2015.
Thompson says Wellmore is the only proposed retirement community on the market employing “purpose-based wellness programming” to help residents live longer and healthier lives.
“When we are in our 20s, 30s, and 40s, we view exercise and good nutrition as a vanity-driven endeavor,” he said. “As we reach our 60s, 70s or 80s, physical activity and nutrition have a greater impact on our ability to successfully navigate life’s daily challenges. Purpose-based wellness programming arms older adults with a non-clinical, cost-effective way to maintain their independence as they age.”
Thompson says Wellmore is the culmination of years of research and millions of dollars spent in developing wellness programming which helps older adults better manage chronic diseases or recover from negative health events, such as a fall-related fracture.
With plans to build up to 10 Wellmore communities throughout the Southeast, including at least one more in South Carolina, Thompson is looking forward to an aggressive construction schedule and the grand opening of the flagship property in Tega Cay.
The property in Tega Cay is a great opportunity for both Wellmore and the City. Officials with Wellmore would like to also extend their gratitude to their additional partners on this specific project: CNL Healthcare Properties, Red Capital Group and Maxwell Group.
The City and officials with Wellmore are looking forward to beginning the construction process. Pre-opening information will be provided for interested buyers at a later date. To request more information regarding Wellmore, please visit www.Well-More.com.
